Help shape APES Science: take our community survey

Tell us what evidence you need most to improve exotic animal care — from first aid to husbandry, behaviour, nutrition and clinical decision‑making.

We’re running a short APES Science community survey to identify the practical questions that matter most to people who care for, study, or treat exotic animals. If you’re into veterinary science, biology, animal management or evidence‑based practice, your insight will directly shape what we research, publish and teach next.

To take part, please visit https://survey.zohopublic.eu/zs/giBZnT and follow the APES Science survey link on the homepage.

Why it matters

Good intentions are not enough — exotic animal welfare improves fastest when everyday care is built on robust, transparent evidence. By telling us which decisions you struggle with (and which resources you trust), you’ll help us target the gaps: triage and first‑aid priorities, species‑specific husbandry and enrichment, nutrition and supplementation, behaviour and stress reduction, and the clinical tools that actually change outcomes.

Your responses will guide our journal clubs, workshops and data collection so that busy veterinary teams, wildlife carers, keepers and students can find — and apply — the best available knowledge quickly and safely. We will publish an anonymised summary of results on the APES Newsroom so the whole community can benefit.

What APES is doing

APES Science is a collaborative home for everyone who believes evidence should drive how we care for exotic animals. We unite scientists, veterinary and nursing professionals, wildlife carers, keepers, students and engaged enthusiasts to explore what works — and why.

Members gain access to a curated, members‑only library of publications and preprints, protocols, datasets and test results, and community case reports. We host journal clubs, workshops and Q&A sessions to help you interpret findings, compare methods and translate research into real‑world care. Contributors can submit manuscripts and data for peer‑style community review, receive citable DOIs (where applicable) and ethical oversight, with options for embargoed or anonymised release.

APES Science operates to clear standards on welfare, biosafety and data protection. We champion transparency and reproducibility while respecting privacy, intellectual property and legal obligations. Learn more about APES and our programmes at apes.org.uk, browse care resources via APES Pet Care, and catch our latest updates on the APES Newsroom.
